My Cost to become Licensed Realtor® in Canada ?
Hi there, in this post I am going to breakdown the costs for each step you need to take in order to become a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson in Canada, New Brunswick. Before I start it’s worth mentioning that you can take all the necessary steps, online, from the comfort of your home. Let get right into it:
Step 1 Introduction to a Career in Real Estate course
The course is available in English and French, it provides you with the information you need to make an informed decision whether or not to pursue a career in real estate. This is a breather that details how much effort and money you need to put in before you get anything in return, and not all get successfull.
I paid 201.25 CAD including HST. You can register online with NBCC-SJ here.
Step 2 Salesperson’s Pre-Licensing Education Course
This course is designed to introduce the new salesperson to the real estate industry and prepare them to write the qualification exam. You will get a 2 books to study at your own pace and practicum which consists of 8 sessions delivered over 4 days by a combination of live webinars and online content.
The self-directed study option is designed to facilitate the participation of potential members where the classroom schedule does not meet their needs. The participant purchases the course and then studies the materials at his/her pace.
I paid whooping 3047.5 CAD including HST
Step 3 EXAM
No additional payment here unless you have to re-take the exam 3 times, in that case you are going to be charged half of the Salesperson’s Pre-Licensing Education Course, 1523.75 CAD
Step 4 Becoming Licensed to Trade in Real Estate
Now it’s time to obtain the license, and you have to pay again, I paid, 1335.28 CAD for NBREA Membership and another 172.5 CAD for the FCNB application.
This brings my total cost to 4929 CAD for the initial cost to become a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson. This should give a good understanding of the upfront investment you need to make just to get your license.
Step 5 Register with your Local Board
Unfortunately, thats not the end – right after you get licensed, the costs keep adding up, you need to account for fuel, marketing materials, and showing costs, and it can take months until you get any commission at all, not to mention license maintenance costs with annual fees. But don’t worry, persictance, patience and hard work will help you get through the initiation phase.

Good Luck and have a great day !
